Week 1922
I near enough finished listening to Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. It didn’t focus on how to get more sleep, but why a lack of sleep is K-I-L-L-I-N-G you.
It’s tricky to be all benevolent in a dev team of two when you’re the lead. People naturally sit on different sides of the balance of design and style choices, so the lead is presented with the decision to intentionally make “a worse” choice in favour of sharing the decisions. I’ve heard the argument that bad decision will eventually revert so it’s not such a big deal.. but the money tree isn’t real so bad decisions can last a looooong time.
I tried C’s quadrant todo list thing. Urgent, not urgent and high value and low value. The benefit is that the high value not urgent stuff often gets ignored.
The stage of life of appreciating all inclusive holidays is here. I actually want to go on one.
And because I’m ageing, I concreted in some steel footings for a pergola in the garden over the weekend. In agony still of course. But concrete is cool.
My backlog at work has been getting me down a bit. The team isn’t big enough to complete the backlog in any foreseeable amount of time. The Icebox is full of years worth of stuff, and the backlog fills during the “sprint”. Think I’m missing some sort of closure and celebration that a sprint might provide. 37 Signals do a 6 week project sprint followed by 1 or 2 weeks to wind down. I fancy it.
